G's Reign of Terror Continues, Beetle Falters, Commish Steals One: Week 9 Drama!
Week 9 is in the books, and the "tightly packed powder keg" we talked about last week certainly delivered some explosive results! We saw a continuation of incredible individual performances, a shocking fall from grace for our long-time #1, and some H2H matchups decided by the thinnest of margins.
MASH Monsters & Top Performers
For the second time in three weeks, Air Yordan (Garrett) once again stands atop the MASH heap, posting a phenomenal MASH of 73-31-6! This guy is on an absolute tear. Not far behind was BaseOnBalls (Joel), who had a fantastic week with the second-best MASH of 66-39-5. Rounding out the MASH podium is Ricky Vaughn (Forgy) with a strong 64-40-6.
Matchup Mayhem: The "Powder Keg" Aftermath
Last week we pondered if the "all matchups within 2 spots in the standings" schedule would cause chaos. It certainly did! Hereβs how Week 9 played out:
- Ricky Vaughn (Forgy) dismantled The Beetle Bunch (Ben) 7-1-2! (Standings: #2 vs #1)
- chicksDigtheLongball (Luke) tied TNTNT (Thompson Boys) 5-5 (Standings: #4 vs #3)
- Air Yordan (G) annihilated Bronx Bombers (Doug) 9-1! (Standings: #5 vs #8)
- Staff Infection (Turg) and JOBU (Jordy) also fought to a 4-4-2 tie! (Standings: #6 vs #7)
- BaseOnBalls (Joel) defeated Welcome to the Jungle (Neate) 5-3-2! (Standings: #9 vs #12)
- Bro Bichette (Zach) and Handsy McNasty (Ads) battled to a 4-4-2 tie! (Standings: #11 vs #10)
The marquee matchup of #1 vs #2 certainly delivered a shock, and several other tight H2H results reflected the close standings pairings!
Focus on the Fortunes: Key Stories from Week 9
Garrett's Unstoppable Force
What more can be said about Air Yordan (G)? Three weeks, three elite MASH performances. This week's #1 MASH powered a 9-1 demolition of the Bronx Bombers. G was a top half performer across the league in an astounding NINE categories (R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, ERA, WHIP, K/9, and NSVH). Heβs now climbed to 4th overall and looks like the hottest team in the league.
The Beetle Falls... Hard
It finally happened. The Beetle Bunch (Ben), our dominant #1 for so long, had a catastrophic week. Not only did he lose his H2H matchup 1-7-2 to the then #2 ranked Ricky Vaughn (Forge), but his team posted the second-worst MASH of the week (a dismal 28-74-8). This was a major stumble, with struggles in nearly every category. His early lead has now disappeared, and he may no longer be the man(ager) to beat!
This Week's Hard Luck Award π’
This one goes to Welcome to the Jungle (Neate). Neate's squad put up a very respectable MASH of 54-48-8 (6th best for the week), a performance that often leads to a comfortable H2H win. Instead, he ran into an even hotter BaseOnBalls team (who had the 2nd best MASH) and ended up losing 3-5-2. It's tough when you play well but your opponent just plays a bit better on the week.
This Week's "Got Away With One" Award π
Let's talk about chicksDigtheLongball (Luke). The Commish pulled off a 5-5 tie against TNTNT. This was despite posting the 10th ranked MASH of 45-59-6, while TNTNT had a superior (albeit not that much better) 7th ranked MASH (54-51-5). That, folks, is the definition of getting away with one!
Dumpster Fire of the Week: Bronx Bombers Get Bombed π₯
While The Beetle Bunch had a shockingly bad MASH week, the undisputed king of the dumpster this week is Bronx Bombers (Doug). Posting the absolute WORST MASH of the week (a horrendous 26-79-5) and getting trounced 1-9 by the MASH-leading Air Yordan makes this an easy call. Doug's team was bottom-3 in 7 different categories. A complete system meltdown, even for a platinum manager.
Standings Snapshot: A New King is Crowned!
Standings Snapshot After Week 9
After nine weeks of intense battles, the Freddy Beach landscape has been dramatically reshaped! The biggest news: we have a new #1 β Ricky Vaughn (Forgy) has surged to the top spot with an impressive 54-31-5 record after a strong week. This means The Beetle Bunch (Ben), after his rough outing, slips to #2 at 53-31-6, making the top of the table incredibly tight. TNTNT (The Thompson Boys) hold strong at #3 with 52-35-3.
The meteoric rise of Air Yordan (Garrett) continues, as he now sits at #4 (51-37-2), followed by chicksDigtheLongball (Luke) at #5 (49-41-0). Perhaps the most stunning climb belongs to Staff Infection (Turg), who has battled all the way to #6 and a .500 record (42-42-6).
Further down, Bro Bichette (Zach) is holding onto 10th place (36-52-2), while Welcome to the Jungle (Neate) finds himself in the 12th spot (31-53-6), looking to spark a turnaround.
What a week for movement! The top of the table is getting spicy, and Air Yordan is looking like a serious problem for everyone. Let's see what Week 10 brings!
Good luck, managers! βοΈ
